Thank you very much once again for your warm and generous hospitality during our first State Visit to the Republic of Lithuania.
Let me begin by saying what a great honour and a real privilege it has been for the Queen and for me to get to know your beautiful and dynamic country.
Yesterday we were deeply moved during the ceremony at Antalkalis Cemetery in honour of all those who gave their lives for Lithuania. This morning, at Vilnius University, we experienced at first hand the growing vitality of a nation renowned for its history and culture.
We have also had the opportunity to observe with admiration the thriving progress experienced over the last two decades by Lithuania, precisely in the year that your country is entering its second millennium of history.
I have also particularly enjoyed having the occasion to meet you for the second time with the aim of exploring, identifying and promoting new areas and possibilities of bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Spain.
With this State Visit, Spain would like to highlight its commitment to strengthening political, cultural and economic ties with your country.
A number of Spanish companies and investors?many of which play a leading international role in highly competitive sectors- have shown increasing interest in Lithuania and a firm belief in its future.
New projects and commercial trends are blazing the path for us to follow, although much remains to be done in order to raise our bilateral relations to the level they deserve, as partners in the European Union.
Mr. President,
Let me reiterate to you my most sincere thanks for the hospitality extended to us and to my entire Delegation, during this significant State Visit.
It is with a feeling of special gratitude and affection towards Your Excellency and towards the authorities and the people of Lithuania, that we will leave your beloved country this afternoon.
In this spirit of gratitude, let me now raise my glass, together with all of your guests, to toast Your Excellency?s health and that of the First Lady, Alma Adamkiene, as well as to a future of even closer friendship between Lithuania and Spain.

Muchas gracias de Nuevo por Vuestra cálida y generosa hospitalidad durante nuestra primera Visita de Estado a la República de Lituania.
Permítame comenzar diciendo que ha sido un honor y un privilegio para la Reina y para mí conocer Vuestro precioso y dinámico país.
Ayer nos sentimos especialmente conmovidos en la ceremonia, celebrada en el cementerio de Antalkalis, por cuantos dieron sus vidas por Lituania. Esta mañana en la Universidad de Vilnius hemos conocido de cerca la creciente vitalidad de una nación conocida por su historia y cultura.
Hemos tenido asimismo la oportunidad de contemplar con admiración el gran progreso alcanzado por Lituania en las dos últimas décadas, precisamente en el año en que Vuestro país inicia su segundo milenio de historia.
He disfrutado especialmente de nuestro segundo reencuentro con el objetivo de explorar, identificar y promover, nuevas áreas y posibilidades de cooperación bilateral entre Lituania y España.
Con esta Visita de Estado, España desea subrayar su compromiso de estrechar sus lazos políticos, culturales y económicos con Vuestro país. Empresas e inversores españoles -muchos de los cuales desempeñan un liderazgo mundial en sectores altamente competitivos- han demostrado ya su creciente interés por Lituania y una firme apuesta por su futuro.
Nuevos proyectos y Corrientes comerciales nos indican el camino a seguir, si bien queda mucho por hacer para elevar nuestras relaciones bilaterales al nivel que merecen como socios en la Unión Europea.
Señor Presidente,
Permítame reiterarle mi gratitud más sincera por la hospitalidad de que hemos sido objeto, junto a toda la delegación española, durante esta importante Visita de Estado.
Abandonaremos esta tarde Vuestro querido país con ese sentimiento de especial gratitud y afecto hacia Vuestra Excelencia y hacia las autoridades y el pueblo de Lituania.
Con ese mismo espíritu de gratitud, deseo ahora levantar mi copa para, junto a todos Vuestros invitados, brindar por la salud de Vuestra Excelencia y de Vuestra esposa, Alma Adamkiene, así como por un futuro de amistad aún más estrecha entre Lituania y España.
