r. Prime Minister,
Thank you very much indeed for your kind words of friendship towards Spain, and for hosting this luncheon, as part of our very pleasant and fruitful State Visit to Latvia.
In a few hours, we will be leaving your beautiful country after having the great privilege of visiting it for the first time, and of enjoying the hospitality of its authorities and its people.
We have also had the opportunity to admire the historical and cultural richness of Riga, which perfectly illustrate the words of the celebrated Spanish diplomat, Angel Ganivet, who fell in love with this capital, when he said that ?Art is the spiritual synthesis of a country?.
Latvia has made enormous progress over the last two decades and counts with enviable human resources to resume its growth and to promote the wellbeing of its people.
The Republic of Latvia has experienced profound changes and deep modernisation in these two decades. These facts together with the strong will and determination of your people, provide your country with an important basis to confront the challenges that we are all facing as a result of the world financial and economic crisis.
Through this State Visit, Spain wishes to express its commitment to promoting its bilateral relations and multilateral cooperation with Latvia.
Our political, cultural, economic and commercial ties have progressed steadily since we both became European Union Member States.
Spain?s private investors have also shown a high level of confidence in the future of Latvia. A good example of it is the inauguration today of the thermoelectrical power plant, built by a prestigious Spanish company at Salaspils.
Thank you once again for this luncheon and for this opportunity to personally exchange ideas with you, on fostering ?for the benefit of our two peoples- the opportunities offered by our bilateral relations.
In that spirit, I ask you to join me in a toast to an even closer friendship and cooperation between Latvia and Spain.
Thank you very much.

Muchas gracias.
