Palabras de Su Alteza Real el Príncipe de Asturias en la reception a los miembros de la “New Zeland Olympic an Commonwealth Games Association”

Nueva Zelanda, 03.07.1990

I

am very happy to have this opportunity of meeting you all and hearing about sport in New Zealand and your plans for participation in world sporting events:

I do not doubt that New Zealand will have splendid results in the next Olympics to be held in Barcelona, and I sincerely hope so.

Being a sportsman myself, and likely to compete in the games with the Spanish soling team, I must say that New Zealand’s achievements in this particular sport seem to me quite impressive.

Nevertheless, we all know that the true Olympic spirit forbids chauvinism, and that the main thing is to participate. That is why I shall be very happy, indeed, if new Zealand gets a silver medal in the soling class.

Anyway, in sport one can never foretell, and I simply want to assure you that, whatever the outcome of the competition, you will all be welcome to Spain, where I shall be able to reciprocate the hospitality I am receiving in New Zealand and where, I am sure, we shall see good sport.

I hope to see most of you very soon in Barcelona in about two years time.

Good luck to you all.
