Palabras de Su Alteza Real el Príncipe de Asturias en el almuerzo ofrecido por el Gobierno australiano

Camberra, 05.07.1990

T

hank you very much for your kind words of welcome to this truly splendid building, that houses the representation of the people of Australia.

I have been told that the King, my father, was the first sovereign to be received in it, after, of course, the Queen of Australia.

The State Visit of the King and Queen two years ago, followed by my visit, so soon after, show the interest that my country attaches to its relations with Australia.

Our two countries have been living, until recent years, what could be termed as "separates. lives". Distance might have been an excuse. in those days, but this excuse is no longer valid.

Men and women of my generation tend to considerer the world as a whole, and I can tell you that your country attracts the interest and the admiration of the people of Spain. I should like to think that this interest is reciprocal, and I wish very much that a substantial number of Australians visit us in 1992.

In that year, when we commemorate the Fifth Centenary of the Discovery of America, we shall host the Olympic Games in Barcelona and the “Expo 92” in Seville. In both events, the official presence of Australia will be important, and I want to encourage Australians to come and give us the chance to give you the warm hospitality that I am receiving here today.
